In the presence of Virgil Abloh, one always expects some coup de teathre. And those who saw the designer walking through the Saint Germain neighborhood in Paris a few days ago could not help but notice the unique look he was wearing. A gray suit straight from the Louis Vuitton SS22 men’s collection, which, however, is anything but predictable. The blazer+pants combo reworked by the fashion biz’s golden boy breaks the rules and sets new ones. The most evident characteristic is the shape, deconstructed and artfully reworked, with a fluid, softened, yet sculptural fit.
The jacket is boxy, cut just above the hips, with a waist-knotted belt. The trouser legs are wide, almost flared, with large slits on the sides that open with every step. To complete the business aesthetic, a crisp white shirt with a spear-point collar and a black tie with visible lettering can be seen.
But it’s the accessories that once again dishevel any pre-established formality. On his feet, Abloh flaunts a preview of the Air Force 1 sneakers created in collaboration with Nike, unveiled during the latest Parisian runway show, in white and brown damier print. Instead of the unusual face masks-balaclavas he had accustomed us to, Virgil opted for a pair of black acetate sunglasses, with sharp cat-eye frames and futuristic lenses, green-based, mirror-like, with a printed question mark symbol and stylized monogram on the temples. The designer has a real weakness for eyewear, boasting a vast personal collection and having just debuted with his genderless line with Off-White. Virgil Abloh’s ensemble certainly doesn’t go unnoticed, immediately going viral and, we bet, will find plenty of followers ready to imitate.
