Vans and Timberland have collaborated on a collection

On one side Vans. On the other Timberland. On one side the imagery associated with the world and culture of streetwear. On the other side that of the outdoors. In the middle, the iconic Half Cab model from Vans, a historic skate shoe launched in 1992, which to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary – and after a series of variants that have interpreted its widespread cultural influence – has decided to approach the world of the historic Yellow Boot brand, to create a hybrid model with an evocative name: Vans Skateboarding x Timberland Half Cab Hiker, with a design halfway between a skate shoe and a unique hiking boot.

An unexpected collaboration where we can say that for the first time, the two brands have merged their most iconic silhouettes to reshape them together. The result? The Half Cab Hiker model draws equal inspiration from Vans, with the Half Cab, and from Timberland, with the Euro Hiker, the iconic lightweight hiking shoe created in 1988 that, just like the Half Cab, has transcended its original role to be embraced by various subcultures worldwide.

Among the various details we have noticed: the familiar cut upper of the Half Cab takes place on the Euro Hiker base, enriched by metallic eyelets with round two-tone laces like those of a hiking boot. In terms of construction, each pair is made of Timberland canvas and leather, while the insole is made with at least 50% recycled plastic to help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. The padded leather collars, rubber lug soles, and Vans/Timberland co-branded details complete the look.

Could the story end there? No, not at all. Because the two brands have also worked together on a new interpretation of Timberland’s classic and timeless Yellow Boot. Launched in 1973, the 6-Inch Boot model has been reimagined by the Vans team in a combination of streetwear, workwear, and skate aesthetics, and presented in black. The concept of “meeting halfway” characterizes the product DNA and is also recognizable in the campaign images accompanying the models. Shot in rural Nebraska — halfway between Vans’ sunny California headquarters and Timberland’s majestic operational base in New Hampshire — by celebrity photographer Cian Moore, the campaign features both professional models and locals, including Phil Burcher, the owner of Omaha’s Precision Skateboards.
