This reissue of Asics’ Gel-Nimbus 9 is the sneaker of the moment

Bulgarian designer Kiko Kostadinov is a true force of nature. Since starting his collaboration with Asics in 2020, he has released one beautiful sneaker after another (you can find some striking examples of his UB3-S Gel-Nimbus 9 below, just to refresh our memory). Models that, despite their futuristic and fashionable design, are reliable from a technical standpoint and extremely functional. But his latest proposal could be a sort of personal peak.

The latest Asics shoe to receive Kostadinov’s remix is the UB5-S GEL-Nimbus 9 in “Glacier Grey”: a running shoe originally released in 2007 as a training shoe for athletes. Once rather basic in terms of design, the silhouette has received a futuristic restyling thanks to Kiko’s work, adding outdoor trail details and bold splashes of color here and there.

Elements from the Asics GEL-TRAIL ATTACK line (one of the brand’s most sought-after shoes) have been incorporated into the mesh upper, while the leather overlays feature red spray paint details. Futuristic “galactic material” inserts can be found on the heel. Apart from the aesthetic aspect, the shoe maintains the highest levels of comfort thanks to the cushioning GEL midsole that adds to the paddings on the sides and in the midfoot region to ensure grip and sports performance.

Like much of Kiko’s work with Asics, this new design draws inspiration from archive silhouettes, colors, and materials. Overall, the shoes in question (found below) have a shape similar to that of the GEL-NIMBUS 3 but feature several elements that allow them to stand out from the crowd.

For those looking for new shoes to flaunt, the UB5-S Gel-Nimbus 9 by Asics in the Glacier Grey version is available for purchase here.
