What lies behind the most desired, purchased, and Instagrammed sneakers on the planet? The question was posed by English artist Hugh Turvey, who, in collaboration with Lyst, the fashion search engine, has decided to thoroughly examine the best-selling tennis shoe models of 2018 by subjecting them to real X-rays.
From this curiosity arose the series “Behind The Seams,” delving beneath the stitches to combine art photography with radiology and streetwear. The seven most popular sneakers in the world are thus exposed in this hospital-flavored game, which you can explore in our gallery: from the Nike Vapormax, revealing all strategically positioned air units on bubble soles to relieve pressure points, to the Louis Vuitton Archlight with its standout LV Monogram heel tab, passing through the shark tooth sole of the Fila Disruptor II, the stacked triple sole of the Balenciaga Triple S, and the removable elastic ribbon with stones and rubber patches of the Gucci Sega Flashtrek.
