After the success of the recent release of Dune, we bet that it would only be a matter of time before the admired sneakers on the big screen would become a reality. What we did not expect is to find ourselves facing a series of models that far exceed our expectations. When we imagined Dune-style sneakers, we were convinced that one of the major footwear brands would take on the responsibility of designing a model with some reference to the film directed by Denis Villeneuve. We were right, although in fact APL, Athletic Propulsion Labs, went well beyond.
The model proposed by APL maintains the sci-fi aesthetics inspired by the Dune universe, managing to be innovative without going overboard. The collection consists of three models, all already available on the APL website. The elements that clearly show the connection with the film are the shape and the names of the shoes. The rest is pure fantasy.
APL Superfuture Harkonnen
The direct inspiration for the creation of this sneaker comes from the family that controls the planet Arrakis at the beginning of the film. The APL Superfuture features a laceless leather upper covered in synthetic panels and elastic straps designed to adapt perfectly to the shape of the foot. TPU reinforcements strengthen the heel, while Velcro straps on the collar ensure a secure fit. These Dune sneakers are equipped with Load ‘N Launch technology, banned by the NBA because it elevates jump height by almost 9 centimeters.
TechLoom Bliss
The second Dune-inspired sneaker model ideally adapts to the surface of the iconic planet that gives its name to the saga and draws inspiration from its timeless desert. It is the lightest running shoe ever, made of beige nylon mesh and finished with a Propelium midsole, which provides greater integrity compared to traditional EVA. A shock-absorbing insole has been added inside.
TechLoom Defender
The third model is inspired by the forest of Caladan, the homeland of the Atreides. The turquoise green silhouette, resistant to water and moisture, is designed to withstand the most extreme weather conditions. The Lycra tongue, soft and elastic, allows greater freedom of movement, while the inside is lined 360° with a barrier that makes it vapor-proof, keeping water out and socks dry. Finally, the dark blue sole provides superior traction.
