The sneaker to wear this summer? The adidas Samba green

The adidas Samba is currently experiencing a period of great splendor. The white model is practically sold out all over the planet. But fear not, the German brand has a plan B to meet the huge demand for these sneakers: to launch the green adidas Samba, a color that makes them look spectacular. The adidas Samba is the longest-running silhouette of the German sportswear brand and is now associated with various collaborative collections, such as that of Pharrell. So its appearance in bicolor and minimalist ensembles is truly eye-catching.

The new Sambas

Recently, the iconic 3-stripe structure has been dressed in a cheerful Chalk Green composition that gives them a perfect touch of color. The forest green hue, accompanied by an all-suede upper and a leather structure covering the tongue and collar, pairs with the latest finishes and laces of the soft surface. The rubber outsole and gold leaf inscriptions give a vintage finish to the shoes, while the stripes and insoles are cream white.

The Samba craze

In a menswear context marked by micro-trends and TikTok memes, the Samba boom is real and surprisingly universal. It’s not just a local trend because the Samba is considered one of adidas’s best-selling models. According to Drew Haines, director of sneaker and collectible merchandise merchandising at the resale site StockX, demand skyrocketed last summer in June and July: “In the last two months, we’ve seen the number of Samba sales almost equal to the combined total of the previous five months (from January to May 2022),” explains Haines.

The three-striped brand had sold out many sizes of the standard Samba models. To highlight the surge in demand, StockX reported some truly astonishing sales data in recent weeks. In mid-August, StockX sold a basic white Samba OG pair (originally about 100 euros) for around 514 euros, more or less the same as an unusual collaboration with Air Jordan, instead of a mass-produced model available in any store. Additionally, the value of collaborations with the Samba has shot up on StockX, with a special LAFC edition commanding an average markup of 200% since January.

The Samba has traveled a rocky road to the top of our collective style perception scale. Introduced in the ’50s by adidas founder Adi Dassler, the original model more closely resembled a hiking shoe than the low sneaker we know today. Dassler’s significant innovation was the rubber sole, developed to help soccer players maintain balance on icy fields.

Over time, the Samba was stylized and became a favorite among futsal players and in the ’90s, its clean silhouette and characteristic brown sole entered the pre-streetwear scene. In the UK, Sambas took off among Britpop fans passionate about soccer (Oasis is credited with adopting them, although they typically preferred the Gazelle, a similar model), and in the US, Californians found they were also excellent skate shoes.

Price and release date of the green adidas Samba
