Adidas goes green. And it does so with a truly special project, in defense of the oceans. The German sportswear brand unveils the new running shoes UltraBOOST, UltraBOOST X and UltraBOOST Uncaged in a new Parley version with a white livery. This collaboration gives rise to a reinterpretation of the iconic high-performance footwear models, created for the occasion with the eco-friendly material Parley Ocean Plastic. The hue, instead, is inspired by the dramatic issue of coral bleaching and symbolically represents “the white flag that humanity should raise as a sign of peace to end ocean pollution”, adopting a collaborative approach with the Parley A.I.R. strategy, aimed at eliminating, intercepting, and recycling plastic waste.
In addition to containing about 11 plastic bottles for the upper of each pair of shoes, the sneakers feature laces, heel reinforcement, heel counter, heel lining, and insole cover made of recycled PET. And they offer superior performance, in an environmental key, to raise awareness about ocean pollution and trigger a positive change.
Not only that. Each pair of shoes comes with an NFC chip, which allows a unique digital experience to discover all the details about the adidas x Parley partnership and the Parley A.I.R. strategy.
“One of adidas’ values is the belief that we can promote ecological innovation and encourage customers to make a difference through sports,” explains Mathias Amm, Product Category Director of adidas Running. “The new white livery doesn’t just represent an aesthetic choice, but also a stance on the environmental front. Humanity has been fighting against the oceans for too long and the new coloration is a symbol of peace to end hostilities.”
To celebrate the green collaboration, adidas invites its community to participate in the adidas x Parley Run for the Oceans, a digital event promoted by Runtastic that will take place during the week of **World Oceans Day 2017,** scheduled from June 5 to 11. All runners are thus invited to show their support for the cause by virtually joining the race, no matter where they are.
