Celebrating tradition while also betraying it. Innovating every possible aspect while maintaining a strong connection to the past, its icons, and the passion they have managed to generate in the hearts of entire generations. With the adidas Originals NMD, the brand new sneakers just launched in style in New York, adidas is betting heavily on its ability to innovate, breaking with the past yet remaining within the realm of tradition. And it offers up completely new shoes, designed for a nomadic lifestyle (hence the acronym that gives them their name), intended for those who “never stop moving, seeking inspiration” in the urban context. A dynamic and extremely demanding audience of buyers, wanting the best in terms of design and technology, seeking accessories that are not only beautiful but also capable of top performance.
The new adidas Originals NMD are here for them, and they appear destined to hit the mark for at least five different reasons:
The first reason is that they are unique, something never seen before but that still feels “familiar” from the first glance: “From afar you can tell they’re adidas – Nic Galway, Originals VP of Global Design and creator of the NMD, told us – but then as you get closer, you are pleasantly surprised because they are not the adidas you know.” In short, a tempting treat for all genre lovers.
The second reason is that they are projected into the future: adidas has tapped into all its know-how to create a high-performance shoe capable of supporting the wearer in a variety of situations. To achieve this, they have enriched their new sneakers with cutting-edge micro-engineered technologies such as Boost (which makes the midsole more durable) and Primeknit (which improves the resistance, stability, and flexibility of the upper). The best of what the German company has developed to compete in the fiercely competitive market of sports shoes without compromise.
The third reason is that, despite being innovative, the NMD maintain a close connection with adidas’ past, as they are heirs to historical models such as the Micro Pacer, Rising Star, and Boston Super. “I’ve been with this company for 16 years and I know the history and value of the brand and the models that inspired me well,” Galway recalls, positioning himself as a guarantor of both continuity with tradition and adidas’ leap into the future.
Another point in favor of the new shoes produced by the German company is that they are truly comfortable. We wore them while covering several kilometers through Manhattan and the impression was simple: they fit like a glove, are soft and comfortable, protect the foot but also follow its movements well thanks to the extremely flexible sole. In short, in one word, they work.
To wrap it up, another noteworthy characteristic in the new NMD is the variety: in the coming months, up to 51 different versions of the shoe will be available, ensuring a variety of colors and combinations with which the company aims to satisfy even the most demanding customers. In short, there will be no shortage of choices.
Meanwhile, adidas announces that the NMD will be available globally from December 12th at a cost of 170 euros at adidas Originals Flagship stores and other selected retailers. The reflective Consortium version of the NMD is also available for purchase at selected Consortium retailers at the same price of 170 euros.
