Maison Margiela and Reebok announce new colorways of the Classic Leather Tabi and Club C models.
Inspired by the codes developed by creative director John Galliano, the sneakers embody the characteristics of the French fashion house in the most recognizable models of the American brand, making this collaboration a continuous collection in every respect.
Classic Leather Tabi, which debuted in January 2021, combines two icons in one. The silhouette is a reconstructed version of Reebok’s beloved Classic Leather (launched in 1983) and features the Tabi design that Maison Margiela created in 1988. With its recognizable split-toe construction, it represents the deconstructive design philosophy symbolic of the house. The Club C Maison Margiela model, initially released in March 2021, merges the distinctive features of Maison Margiela and Reebok. Maison Margiela applies a house technique, the trompe l’oeil, to Reebok’s iconic Club C (launched in 1985), scanning the original Reebok model onto the upper.
Using trompe l’oeil (literally “deceive the eye”), the print mimics every stitch, fold, and shadow of the original three-dimensional surface, achieving a two-dimensional optical illusion typical of Maison Margiela’s visual language, which has always blurred the line between reality and illusion.
Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi and Club C are available in selected Maison Margiela boutiques, on Reebok.it and www.maisonmargiela.com.
