The favorite sneakers of Timothée Chalamet? The New Balance signed by Jaden Smith, of course

At the beginning of this year, Timothée Chalamet, before the lockdown and the subsequent travel ban, was spotted in London while sporting a perfect example of city walking attire. His outfit, consisting of a zip-up jacket from Prada Re-Nylon, brown Prada trousers with front pleats, a Chelsea FC beanie, and a pair of gray New Balance 991 sneakers, immediately became the look of the day and provided a reference point on how to dress for solitary walks around the world. It was not the first nor the last time he wore New Balance. We had already admired the Beautiful Boy actor gracefully wandering in the aerodynamic 997H from the Boston brand, and just last week he had on the NB ML574 in their orange, white, and navy blue colorway.

And it’s no wonder that Timothée Chalamet prefers New Balance. A supporter of sustainability, he often wears eco-friendly brands like Stella McCartney, Eye/Loewe/Nature, and Tretorn, and even though New Balance is not the most sustainable brand on the planet, it has committed to help the cause. By 2025, the American brand aims for all its cotton and leather pieces to come from sustainable sources and for 50% of polyester to be recycled. Now, Chalamet has given us a taste of the latest addition to his sneaker collection: bold, courageous, sturdy, and designed by another environmental-conscious millennial. It is the most sustainable model of New Balance produced to date.

The twenty-four-year-old star posted on Instagram a photo of a pair of New Balance Vision Racers signed by Jaden Smith, in a white, yellow, and blue running model version. Unveiled last July, Smith’s high-soled NB Racers are made with a blend of castor oil, recycled foam, recycled rubber, 74% virgin PU leather, 98% post-production leftover foam, and rubber that would usually end up in landfills. Greta Thunberg would surely give her blessing to these products. The best part is that they are still available on StockX. In the future, however, we aim for a model of New Balance 991s that are super-sustainable, designed by Timothée Chalamet himself.
