A new pair of sneakers is just what you need to kick off the year. To tackle 2022 with momentum, you need sneakers that are dynamic, high-performing, and, why not, Instagrammable. Here are our favorite models selected from the latest releases, reissues, and new proposals.
Saucony Originals
For those who love travelling (even if only in the mind), the Into the Void collection by Saucony Originals is dedicated, inspired by the Northern Lights. The waves of light and ultraviolet hues become graphic patterns on the uppers of two iconic models of the brand, Shadow 6000 and Grid Web. The former features panels of woven suede and premium leather, while the latter is characterized by TPU mesh overlaid on the upper mesh. Find the Shadow 6000 Into the Void at €139 on the Saucony website.
Part of a limited edition created specifically to celebrate the Year of the Tiger are the sneakers from the New Balance AS Roma Lunar New Year capsule, a release that is part of New Balance’s “Only Roma” campaign for the 2021/22 season in recognition of the Roman team as a lifestyle. The iconic model 237 features a livery with a large N that reflects the team’s colors and a dedicated graphic stamped inside the insole. It will soon be available on the New Balance and AS Roma websites.
Velasca & Pininfarina
From the unprecedented meeting of two Italian excellences come the Monviso, sneakers that combine the savoir-faire of Velasca, a brand of artisanal footwear, and Pininfarina, synonymous with high-end Made in Italy design in the industrial, nautical, and automotive fields. These urban trails made of suede calf leather have an essential yet sophisticated look, equipped with a waterproof membrane and a Vibram rubber sole. On the sides, some protective lines curve reminiscent of the mountains that inspire their name. Available on the Velasca website at €350.
Giuseppe Zanotti
Bold and decidedly unconventional are the Cobras, the latest sneaker launched by Italian designer Giuseppe Zanotti. It is a low-top sneaker characterized by a 3D snake that coils on the upper, with the head wrapping around the toe. Sculptural and chunky, the reptile’s body is also replicated under the sole with scarlet crystal eyes. Available in four monochromatic shades, pink, red, black, and white. Find it on Farfetch for €950.
Nike
Arriving on January 10th (on the Nike store) is the new release of the Nike Dunk SB Low, which after the purple version comes in the more understated Chlorophyll. Before making its mark in the skate world, the Dunk was designed as a basketball shoe. Later on, skaters began using it for its durability and responsiveness on the board. In 2002, the silhouette was redesigned to meet the needs of this new audience of enthusiasts, with the addition of a Zoom Air unit in the heel and a padded tongue for extra comfort. They are already available on StockX for those who can’t wait.
