Even a pair of Nike Air Jordan can be crafted with rice, seaweed, and salmon. But only if the food designer behind this creation is Yujia Hu of the Milanese restaurant Sakana Sushi. The young creative, whom we had already met for his onigiri inspired by faces of actors and athletes, returns with a new project, this time able to combine his love for basketball with oriental cuisine: these are Shoe-shi, sushi bites inspired by the most famous sneakers of recent years.

“I started making sushi 10 years ago and still do it in the family restaurant,” Yujia tells us. – About a year ago, I started experimenting with new techniques using the ingredients I use daily in my profession, representing iconic basketball characters in the form of onigiri, my favorite sport. Inevitably, influenced by the sneaker craze of recent years, I began reproducing some of the most iconic shoes that circulate on social media, for which everyone goes crazy, like the first ones I reproduced, the Nike Air Jordan”.

Thus, the series continues with the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350, passing through the Yeezy Zebra and the Vans. “In these last days,” he continues, “I have had many requests for my ‘shoe-shi’. Especially from foreign students in Italy and tourists who were in Milan, and who would have liked to taste one before leaving.” These small artistic bites, which Yujia prepares in the family restaurant by request, have also been turned into a collection of limited edition prints, available on the portal HumLikes.
