Patta x Nike Air Max Plus FC Barcelona, the sneaker made for true football fans

As it happened with the Air Max 1 last year, Dutch streetwear boutique Patta and Nike have come together once again. This time it’s the Patta x Nike Air Max Plus FC Barcelona: a love letter to the Spanish football team founded in 1899 that simultaneously pays tribute to terrace fashion, the sporty and casual clothing typical of English football fans who attend stadiums, and the retro silhouette.

Characterized by a mesh base that fades from magenta to blue, inspired by the colors of the Catalan club, this Air Max Plus features a black protective system that wraps around the entire upper to provide greater structure and support. A pair of swooshes run on the lateral and medial sides, while on the tongue, where the Nike logo is usually found, there is a glossy Patta logo that mimics the hexagonal shape of the Air Max Plus.

On the insoles, the phrase Culers del Mon refers to the die-hard fans of FC Barcelona, while the chunky midsole is accented in orange and infused with Nike’s Air technology for enhanced comfort and cushioning. Everything is completed with a special edition of laces displaying the Barça crest and packaged in an exclusive Patta x Nike x FC Barcelona box.

Designed by footwear designer Sean McDowell, the Air Max Plus is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year (happy birthday!). Although originally designed to be a high-performance runner, British football fans quickly embraced it, and it soon became a type of footwear often seen in the stands of the most important matches, alongside other sneakers like the Adidas Samba. And yes, even the latter has received a small revamp.
