Palace x New Balance 991 is a perfect creation. Since its launch in 2009, the skate brand has been the kind of counterculture producer that other major brands aspire to. New Balance, the creator of dad sneakers and the architect of many sold-out collaborations, knows how to achieve success from partnerships: Casablanca, Aimé Leon Dore, Joe Freshgoods, and so on. Now, its best-selling canvas, the 991, is about to join this successful list.

How the new sneaker is made

The Palace 991 is presented in two color combinations. The first pair features a beige color with purple and aqua accents, while the second follows a more traditional route with a classic grey, red, and black palette. Unlike the standard versions of this silhouette dating back to 2001, Palace’s Lev Tanju has replaced the ballistic mesh base with a waterproof nylon composition because gorpcore is still a very important thing. Additionally, he added a really nice suede on the front and back of the sneakers.

Underfoot, you’ll find a sturdy Abzorb midsole that is widely recognized as one of the most comfortable components of New Balance. It all comes packaged in a special shoebox, complete with custom dubraes, extra laces, and the prestigious “Made in UK” branding.

Even though we are only five months into 2023, Palace Skateboards has already stood out in some of the biggest collaborations in the industry. In March, they worked for the first time with Ugg on a pair of sheepskin leather boots covered in lightning bolts and are said to have other adidas sneakers in the pipeline.

Launching alongside a whole collection of coordinated clothing and accessories, the Palace x New Balance 991 will be available at Palace stores in the UK, US, and Japan, as well as on their webstore, on May 12. If history teaches us anything, these shoes are likely to sell out quickly: in the meantime, both versions, Grey and Beige, have already appeared on StockX in resell.
