The New Balance hybrid boot takes its name from the forty-first element of the periodic table, which bears the symbol Nb.
New Balance’s Tokyo Design Studio team has focused their efforts in recent times on the TDS Niobium Concept 1 boot, especially in collaboration with Snow Peak earlier this year. The boot has been reworked in a new colorway but still retains some technical elements including a waterproof lining and ABZORB cushioning with an MT801 outsole, one of New Balance’s best-selling trail running shoes. Inside the upper, an eVent bootie, designed to be waterproof and breathable, can be swapped out with a sandal lining.
Like other versions of the Niobium, the distinctive feature is its dual construction. In addition to the functional outdoor trekking boot, this hybrid can be transformed at will, thanks to removable zips, for indoor situations like a tent or inside an apartment.
The latest interpretation of the silhouette by the Tokyo Design Studio features the “Steel” colorway throughout. It can be transformed into waterproof boots suitable for use by the sea and in adverse weather conditions; outdoor sandals that can be easily removed when moving between indoor and outdoor areas; and slippers for use in a tent or generally indoors.
The New Balance Tokyo Design Studio Niobium “Steel” debuts today at selected retailers, including sivasdescalzo at a retail price of 300.00 euros.
