For the Japanese designer, it’s almost a record of collaborations with New Balance, a sign of unconditional respect for the Boston brand.
Japanese designer Junya Watanabe‘s passion for New Balance is well known, as she has a decent history of collaborations on a series of NB models. One of Watanabe’s favorite silhouettes is the NB574, which she revisits here in a new configuration named AM574.
The AM574 takes the familiar upper of the 574 and places it on a low-profile rubber sole borrowed from tennis low tops. This isn’t the first time a NB sneaker has undergone such a transformation, with the CT576 having previously undergone this type of restyling. The collection features three colorways in fairly sober monochromatic configurations of cream, green, and black in suede and mesh.
There are some slightly bolder elements like yellow and white on the green colorway, creating an unlikely connection to Australia’s green and gold livery. The other two pairs are quite simple with white accents contrasting on areas like the heel tab and the N logo on the metatarsal. A hint of personality is seen on the rear midsole, where the oversized logo that reads ‘JWCdGMAN‘ is placed.
The Junya Watanabe x New Balance AM574 is now available at Dover Street Market.
