Nike is right on schedule. Just over a month before the release of Super Mario Bros – The Movie, sneaker designer Andrew Chiou unveils his latest customization: a Nike Dunk Low named “What the Super Mario“. Don’t be alarmed, but the pair of shoes will be completely mismatched. The design is a colorful patchwork featuring the most iconic characters and objects from the video game. The Mystery Box graphic covers the toe of one of the shoes, while references to Mario’s hat adorn the heel. The “Bullets Bills” and the dotted mushroom hat of Todd are also present on the heel edge and sides of the shoe. The blue sky full of clouds is visible on the front of the right pair. Other subtle references have been included. The pink of Princess Peach adorns part of the sneaker, the villain Bowser gets a prominent place, and many other characters have made their way into this unique Dunk Low. The Swoosh is yellow on one shoe and blue on the other.

Nike has not provided any information regarding the release of the vibrant sneaker. The designer himself showcased his creation on his own Instagram account.

Not the first time

Nike is not the first brand to venture into the Super Mario universe. In 2020, Puma collaborated with Nintendo to design a pair of shoes with the character’s logo and distinctive colors for his 35th anniversary. It was a revamped version of the RS-Dreamer, a famous model of the brand. Although the color combination used left no doubt about the theme of the sneakers, the Super Mario Bros logo was embroidered on the tongue.
