It all started 20 years ago, from the brilliant mind and hands of designer Sergio Lozano. With his team, he created the ultimate “performance” shoe that changed the running paradigm: the Nike Air Max 95, famous for its iconic fluorescent yellow details. “The first conceptual revision of the Air Max 95 did not initially resonate with the board: some thought it was good, while others didn’t like it at all,” Lozano explains as he recounts the obstacles he faced in the early stages of designing the shoe. “But, thanks to a strong and collaborative team, I brought his vision to life, creating a sneaker with a lineage worthy of the Air Max family name.” But how did the inspiration come about? Simply by looking at the scenery of Beaverton city (Oregon). “I was observing the lake through the trees and started to imagine the process of rain eroding the earth and thought it would be interesting if the erosion revealed the perfect product,” explains Lozano. He quickly sketched out striations resembling those found on the walls of the Grand Canyon. A few months later, drawing inspiration from human anatomy books (ribs, vertebrae, muscles, and human skin: Lozano was drawn to the correlation between the construction of the human body and the essential elements of product design, note), the true project was born and realized. Here are photos of the hand-drawn sketches.
