Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi High

Maison Margiela and Reebok announce the Classic Leather Tabi High available from June 18, 2021.

The collaboration between the French fashion house and the American brand is more than just a partnership between two commercial brands; the two have merged two different worlds united by inventiveness and a passion for innovation. Margiela interprets Reebok’s 1985 Classic Leather through the haute couture language, applying the décortiqué technique to the iconic Reebok runner.

Conceptualized by creative director John Galliano, décortiqué is a technical term used to describe the deconstruction down to the basic structure of a garment or accessory. By cutting along the architectural skeleton of an object, the internal construction is revealed. A figurative process embodying the values of authenticity and individualism of Maison Margiela, with a further reference to the concept of anonymity of the lining, exposing and elevating the inside of a garment or accessory traditionally hidden.

The Classic Leather Tabi High is designed based on Reebok’s Classic Leather, with the addition of the distinct Tabi sandal structure. Utilizing the décortiqué technique, leather fragments are cut away to reveal the sneaker’s lining, while the ankle strap reinforces the gladiator sandal imagery. The high top is available in black, white, and red leather, or in the “Bianchetto” version, Maison Margiela’s characteristic technique where a base of black leather is hand-painted with a layer of white paint that intentionally cracks over time and wear.

Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi High are available from Friday, June 18 at selected Maison Margiela boutiques, on Reebok.it and www.maisonmargiela.com.
