Kim Jones collaborates with Converse on new collection

The trend of collaborations in the fashion world continues to thrive. Among the latest is the partnership between Converse and Kim Jones. The creative director of Dior has teamed up with the iconic American brand for a collection that reinterprets not only the brand’s classic model, the legendary Chuck 70s, but also adds some clothing pieces to the mix.

Kim Jones’ approach to shoe design is explained well by Jones himself: “It was very clear and direct: to take a very classic (and iconic) shoe and then almost encase it in something that protects it.” Although Kim Jones has admitted not being a nostalgic person, he understands the brand’s DNA values and has a keen eye on how to transport them into a more modern, contemporary, almost futuristic context. In detail, the shoes feature an elongation and curvature of the rubber midsole to create an illusionary lifting effect; the aesthetic is impactful yet non-invasive thanks to the creation of a transparent TPU cover with practical eyelets for a double lacing system.

The collection is complemented by four pieces: a water-resistant parka, a cotton crewneck sweatshirt, cotton cargo pants with added mesh elements for breathability, and a cotton t-shirt. “There is a quest for an effortless look for each piece,” says Jones. “I wanted each item to be a modern version of the ‘Take Ivy’ atmosphere.”
