Kanye West flaunts his new “ugly shoes”

When Kanye West introduces a new trend, whether loved or hated, it is certain to capture public attention. After revealing the new merch for his Sunday Service at the Coachella Festival, where all the guests dressed in various shades of purple, Kanye West was spotted in Calabasas, not far from the extravagant villa where he lives with Kim Kardashian and their three children, wearing a matching look: an oversized Yeezy plum T-shirt, layered over a faded indigo long-sleeved shirt, paired with ankle-length mauve purple pants. But the most eye-catching – and controversial – element of his outfit were the shoes, gray/purple spandex ankle boots with an ultra-thin rubber sole extended upwards towards the big toe.

A pair of sneakers that are out of the ordinary, appearing to be a cross between diving socks and karate shoes, hugging the ankle and seemingly drawing inspiration from models already available for several seasons by Balenciaga and Vetements. However, this is not the first time that Kanye West has sported peculiar footwear: last August, at the wedding of his friend 2-Chainz in Miami, the rapper wore a Louis Vuitton suit with a pair of mini sandals, which, as expected, sparked a flurry of social media reactions. A predictable response this time as well, starting with 50 Cent, who apparently did not appreciate Kanye’s new shoes, bluntly stating that he would never wear them. Could this be a preview of the new Yeezy collection?
