Fila between nostalgia and streetwear, the new course to success

It was the Nineties when Fila, with its acetate tracksuits and logoed T-shirts, was a must-have in every wardrobe, along with the debate on which group to prefer between Blur and Oasis. The clothing brand born in Biella in 1911 was considered essential to own and flaunt on every occasion, anticipating the irresistible mix between sportswear and streetwear that would later spread and reach its climax today. Ludovico Tersigni, an Italian actor born in 1995 and protagonist of series that have already become cult like Skam Italia and Summertime, and movies like On My Skin by Alessio Cremonini, probably remembers little of those years, as he had just been born. But today, like many of his generation, and not only, he finds himself wearing garments that don’t differ much from the original models of that period. This is because there is a true “Nostalgia Operation” underway that involves the recovery of that Nineties aesthetic, balanced between pop and grunge, made of saturated colors and impactful graphics.

We at Gq have chosen it as a temporary model that well embodies the power of that style and the renewed appeal of the Fila brand, which certainly cannot be missing among the brands that are giving life to this trend, also thanks to the immense archive it can draw from. The new season for winter 2020-21 can only take inspiration from the brand’s heritage, revolving around the world of tennis and basketball, redesigning in a contemporary key the great classics of athletic codes. A range of coordinated two-piece sets, offered in a variety of new fabrics and fits. Iconic pieces like the timeless tracksuit, available in velour as well as technical fabric, paired with reflective puffer jackets, zippered blousons, sweatshirts with contrasting panels. The sneakers are of course essential, the undisputed object of desire, with old-school silhouettes such as the Disruptor, V94M, Trail-R20, and Sandblast. The design of the new lines is captivating and powerful, with full and textured colors that define the shapes of the various elements well. A perfect blend of present and future, winning over men from yesterday and today.
