CHRISTIE’S ANNOUNCES LARGEST SNEAKER AUCTION EVER HELD IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STADIUM GOODS
Christie’s and Stadium Goods have announced their second online auction collaboration titled Original Air Takes Flight: The Evolution and Influence of Air Jordan Sneakers. A grand title that aptly describes the scope of this event.
Arguably the most influential athlete of all time, Michael Jordan carries a legacy that still resonates both on and off the court. With 90 pairs of sneakers, the “Original Air Part II” offers a comprehensive overview of Jordan’s impact in the industry, featuring worn sneakers, samples, and prototypes from the early days of the Air Jordan brand, including rare exclusives and pairs worn by Jordan’s teammates and rivals. Spanning from his groundbreaking Rookie of the Year season, through championships, cultural crossovers, and to his continued influence through projects like “The Last Dance” and mentoring Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan continues to leave an indelible mark on sports, fashion, and pop culture. This auction captures the essence of that legacy through a complete offering of historical and rare memorabilia.
The collection includes a selection of rare and pristine original 1985 Air Jordan 1 pairs, including the legendary 1985 Air Jordan 1 Metallics, and for the first time ever, a complete set of original Air Jordan 1-14. Exclusive pairs worn by Michael himself such as the Air Jordan 11 “Concord”, Air Jordan 12 “Taxi”, Air Jordan 13 “He Got Game”, and Air Jordan 17 make up another section of the package. Some models are worn and autographed by his teammates (BJ Armstrong) and rivals (Charles Barkley), and even a pair worn by Jordan on the golf course, along with a handful of player exclusives created for prominent universities (UNC, Michigan, Georgetown), ranging from the first Air Jordan 1 model to the Air Jordan 22.
The Original Air Part II also offers a selection of items from other professional athletes across various sports, some of whom were part of Team Jordan, including Derek Jeter, Russell Westbrook, Ray Allen, and Jimmy Butler.
Previews are available on the online portal starting from June 2, while the full live auction kicks off on the website Christies.com from June 4. The entire selection will then be exhibited by Christie’s in New York from June 4-9, followed by another selection of curated products from June 9-30. The official sale is open for final bids from June 22-30.
