Ready? Go! Anyone can register on the Asics website and participate in the selections for the Asics Beat the Sun race, 2015 edition, which will take place in Chamonix, France on June 21st. Considered one of the most challenging relay races on the international scene, the event will involve five teams representing the four different continents. Not only will they compete against each other, but they will also try to “beat the sun” by running around Mont Blanc. The athletes will have only 15 hours, 41 minutes, and 35 seconds to complete the 148 km race. Each team will consist of three professional athletes and three amateurs who, by competing in a relay race, will try to be the first team to circumnavigate the mountain. Two of the five teams represent Europe, while the remaining three are made up of athletes from America, Asia-Oceania, and Africa.
Asics is looking for fifteen amateur runners, six of whom are from European countries (one from the UK, one from Austria, one from Germany, one from France, one from Italy, and one from Spain, note), three from America, three from Africa, and three from Asia-Oceania. The amateurs will be selected based on their ability and motivation towards competition. Once selected, during the two months leading up to the race, they will be trained by a professional athlete from their team. Additionally, they will receive tailored training advice and plans from the Asics Trail Team, along with a special kit of clothing and footwear.
Among the professionals, the presence of trail specialists Emmanuel Gault (France) and Kota Araki (Japan), extreme distance runner Christian Schiester (Austria), marathoner Holly Rush (UK), middle-distance runner Lukas Naegele (Germany), and triathlete and 2012 Ironman winner Pete Jacobs (Australia) are confirmed. The athlete who will represent Italy will be Xavier Chevrier, a 25-year-old from Valle d’Aosta.
