It has been 31 years since the eternal number 23 won his first NBA title with the Bulls in 1991. Since then, the Air Jordan 6 he wore has become Michael Jordan’s lucky sneaker and triumphantly debuted on the shelves where it was sold. The Air Jordan 6 was created in 1991, the year Jordan was playing his sixth season and although he was already making a name for himself, the athlete who would become one of the greatest dunkers of all time still had to win a title. The ’91 season was the right one and the Bulls managed to clinch the championship against the Los Angeles Lakers. An achievement that naturally also featured the AJ6 as the protagonist. The sneaker model that would mark a before and after in Michael Jordan’s history is now reissued in a color combination meant to celebrate a fundamental moment in the champion’s life, and we’re not talking about the Banned that skyrocketed the popularity of Air Jordan.
The color scheme we are referring to is the same as the emblem under which Jordan grew up and developed his technique before becoming the legend that the Bulls would have in the team in the mid-’80s. We are talking about the player’s alma mater, the university that was his home for four years and the first official uniform he honored. The new release is the Air Jordan 6 UNC, which features the colors of the University of North Carolina. The aesthetic of the Chapel Hill university has already accompanied us in models like the Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 3, Air Jordan 4, or Air Jordan 9. Now it appears in the favorite silhouette of Travis Scott for this tribute.
The sneaker has a soft nubuck upper in Carolina Blue tones with white leather overlays. Navy blue finishes the details on the heel and midsole protections. Finally, the heel has been decorated with a label similar to those we have already seen on other university models like the Air Jordan 5 “Michigan” or “Oregon”. We can get a pair of Air Jordan 6 UNC White sneakers starting from March 5th.
