adidas, the first sneakers designed by Craig Green are coming

Mark this date: January 31. The day when the adidas Originals designed by Craig Green will be unveiled to the world. The English designer, who debuted in 2012 in London with a runway show where the models had their faces covered with wooden scaffolding, after his collaboration with Moncler, signs a new partnership, this time with the German brand adidas. The debut of the sneakers took place during Green‘s S/S 2020 runway show at London Men’s Fashion Week in June 2019: at the core of it all are the ingenious design skills and the freedom to experiment, traits shared by both the brand and the designer, acclaimed worldwide for his genius.

“A shoe is like a sculpture,” says Craig Green. “With sneakers you can do so many things, more than with clothes. It’s exciting to think about all that can be created in this project with adidas Originals.

Simplicity and functionality are the stylistic features of the designer who inserts unmistakable proposals in every collection, such as the work jacket, which serve as a springboard for ideas connected to the deepest emotions. The first drop of adidas Originals by Craig Green shines the spotlight on two new models: CG Kontuur I and CG Kontuur II. The two proposals draw from two historic adidas silhouettes, namely Kamanda and Ozweego. One of the key premises for Green was to reproduce the sole in the upper: it can be seen, for example, in the perforated front part of CG Kontuur I, as if the Kamanda sole took over the entire sneaker, or in the deep stitching that recalls the Ozweego sole on CG Kontuur II. Today, Green’s creations are part of the permanent collections of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Green has also won the title of British Menswear Designer in the 2016, 2017, and 2018 editions of the Fashion Awards. Will these sneakers end up in a museum as well? Time will tell…
