Adidas is running towards the future. In partnership with Materialise, the German sportswear brand presents Futurecraft 3D, a running shoe with a specially 3D-printed midsole that can be customized to the individual foot cushioning needs. The 3D concept is part of the ‘Futurecraft’ series, a pioneering initiative of the company that places open-source collaboration and artisanal manufacture at the heart of design, ensuring maximum innovation in all elements of the production process. Adidas, in this way, has created a unique combination of material and production process, providing athletes with the best personalized experience. The innovative production will elevate the standard of traditional running shoes, offering customized support and better foot harmonization, allowing runners to achieve maximum performance. In the near future, all you will need to do is walk into one of the brand’s stores, run briefly on a treadmill and instantly get a 3D-printed running shoe.
“Futurecraft is our creative experimental lab,” explained Paul Gaudio, Adidas’ creative director. “It’s how we challenge ourselves every day, exploring the limits of our craft. Experimenting with innovative materials and processes, bringing the familiar into the future, combining the qualities of craftsmanship and prototyping with the unlimited potential of new production technologies. This project is minimalist, fast, untouched and real, just like our approach to design.”
