The first Trompe-l’oeil sneakers by Schiaparelli

What if these new sneakers were already the most unusual accessory of 2024. This Friday, April 19, Schiaparelli presents its first pair of sneakers and they are bound to attract attention. Their appearance, blending Americanism and Parisian chic, exudes one of the timeless codes of the Parisian house: trompe l’oeil.

Indeed, previously only seen on high heels or towering platform boots, the surrealistic gold toe effect has become an unmistakable signature of the Daniel Roseberry era, the artistic director of Schiaparelli since 2019.

“It’s couture fantasy made for the street. This sneaker is particularly meaningful to me because it symbolizes who I am: an American in Paris. It embodies the meeting of two worlds: American comfort and French chic rigor,” explains Daniel Roseberry in a statement.

Unveiled during the Spring-Summer 2024 fashion show, these astonishing Toe Trainers sneakers, worn by Mona Tougaard (one of the most popular models currently in the world), mark a new chapter for Schiaparelli, which entered the ready-to-wear market in early 2023.

Surrealistic sneakers in the house’s codes

Faithful to the DNA of the Parisian house founded in 1927, the first pair of sneakers by Schiaparelli is an ode to surrealism – and the sportswear heritage of the house – as frequently practiced by Daniel Roseberry. This is evidenced by the numerous collections presented since his arrival at the studios.

Keyhole (Autumn-Winter 2023-2024), levitating cigarettes, fish skeleton, gold crab around the neck (Spring-Summer 2024), or lobster on the chest… Each silhouette invites reverie. But the golden brass anatomical details remain an essential code permeating the ready-to-wear and accessories collections, like the Anatomy Jewelry bag.

However, one question arises: who will dare to wear these new shoes? One thing is certain, they are likely to be quickly adopted by trendsetters during the upcoming Fashion Weeks.
