Nicolas Di Felice is the new guest of Jean Paul Gaultier
The announcement shakes the fashion world on this Monday, March 18, 2024. And for good reason, Jean Paul Gaultier reveals the name of the new invited designer for the next haute couture collection – for fall-winter 2024. And it is none other than Nicolas Di Felice, artistic director of the fashion house Courrèges since 2020.
A little reminder. After presenting a masterful last haute couture show in January 2020 at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Jean Paul Gaultier unveiled, a few days later, an innovative idea intended to perpetuate his legacy.
Twice a year, the illustrious fashion designer entrusts the keys to his creative studio to a young invited designer for one season, to revisit the mountains of archives of the house through their own stylistic codes.
We recall in particular Chitose Abe, founder of the label Sacai, Glenn Martens, at the helm of Y/Project and Diesel, the sublime show by Olivier Rousteing, artistic director of Balmain, the iconic Haider Ackermann and the collection paying homage to Paris by Julien Dossena of Rabanne. Last January, Jean Paul Gaultier also admired the romantic and poetic show by Irish designer Simone Rocha.
These are the designers who have made Jean Paul Gaultier’s new haute couture shows a must-attend event of Paris Fashion Week.
A fashion designer with minimalist and ultra-modern aesthetics
The challenge is thus great for Nicolas Di Felice, who gained experience alongside Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, and also Raf Simons at Dior.
The Belgian designer, recently announced as the head of the new jury of the 2024 Hyères Festival, has the habit of skillfully blending the legacy of couturier André Courrèges with the wandering energy of modern youth.
Thus, the collections of the fashion house founded in 1961 feature minimalist and sensual silhouettes with geometric constructions and bold colors typical of the 1960s, as seen in the fall-winter 2024-2025 show.
Between revisited archives and an affirmation of his personal aesthetics inspired by his childhood landscapes – Nicolas Di Felice hails from a village near Charleroi in Belgium – the designer seems to be the perfect candidate to shine the internationally renowned legacy of Jean Paul Gaultier…
The Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture show by Nicolas Di Felice will take place during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week from Monday, June 24 to Thursday, June 27, 2024.
